A United Airbus A319-100, registration N849UA performing flight UA-1250 from Chicago O'Hare,IL to Indianapolis,IN (USA) with 96 people on board, was climbing through 9000 feet out of Chicago's runway 22L when the crew declared emergency reporting "electrical something burning in the cockpit" and requested an immediate return. The aircraft positioned for a return to runway 28C, the crew advised they thought it was one of their TFT displays burning, they would be able to vacate the runway after landing. The aircraft landed safely on runway 28C about 14 minutes after departure, stopped on the parallel taxiway for about 5 minutes for an inspection by emergency services and taxied to the apron.

A replacement Airbus A319-100 registration N838UA reached Indianapolis with a delay of about 3:40 hours.

The occurrence aircraft returned to service about 19 hours after landing.
