A United Boeing 757-200, registration N14118 performing flight UA-316 from Dublin (Ireland) to Newark,NJ (USA), had climbed to FL310 and had levelled off for about 3 minutes when the crew decided to return to Dublin reporting a strong smell of fuel on board inducing headaches with a number of cabin crew and passengers, however, they had no indication of a fuel leak. The crew requested medical assistance and advised ATC they were doing an overweight landing. The aircraft landed safely on Dublin's runway 28R about 55 minutes after departure. The aircraft taxied to the apron where paramedics treated a number of cabin crew and passengers.

The flight was cancelled.
