A United Boeing 757-300, registration N57857 performing flight
UA-2225 from Chicago O'Hare,IL to Phoenix,AZ (USA), was enroute at FL280 about 110nm west of Albuquerque,NM (USA) when the crew decided to turn around and divert to Albuquerque. The aircraft landed safely on Albuquerque's runway 03 about 20 minutes later.
The FAA reported: "United Airlines Flight 2225 landed safely at Albuquerque International Sunport in New Mexico around 11:45 a.m. local time on Saturday, Dec. 28, after the crew reported smoke in the flight deck. The Boeing 757 departed Chicago O'Hare International Airport and was en route to Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport. The FAA will investigate."
The airline reported possible smoke in the cabin. The passengers were rebooked onto other flights.
The aircraft returned to service about 23 hours after landing.
