A United Boeing 767-300, registration N675UA performing flight UA-909 from Chicago O'Hare,IL (USA) to Amsterdam (Netherlands) with 74 people on board, was descending through about FL200 towards Amsterdam's runway 18R when the crew declared PAN PAN reporting they had problems with their engine (PW4060) de-icing system and requested emergency services on standby. The aircraft continued for a safe landing on runway 18R about 18 minutes later.

The aircraft remained on the ground in Amsterdam for about 26 hours, then departed for the return flight.
