A United Boeing 767-300, registration N685UA performing flight
UA-941 from London Heathrow,EN (UK) to Newark,NJ (USA) with 169 people on board, was enroute at FL340 about 40nm northnorthwest of Dublin (Ireland) when the crew declared emergency reporting they had a fuel problem. They had a fuel imbalance and needed to return to Heathrow as quickly as possible to not permit the imbalance get out of hand. The crew subsequently explained they had trouble to control the fuel imbalance between the tanks. The aircraft turned around and returned to Heathrow for a safe landing on runway 27R about one hour after the decision to turn around.
A replacement Boeing 767-300 registration N652UA reached Newark with a delay of about 5.5 hours.
The occurrence aircraft is still on the ground in London about 26 hours after landing.
