A Westjet Encore de Havilland Dash 8-400, registration C-GTWE performing flight WR-3260 from Victoria,BC to Kelowna,BC (Canada) with 81 people on board, was enroute nearing the top of descent into Kelowna when severe static occurred on the captain's headset, the captain was unable to communicate with ATC or the first officer via the Intercom. The first officer took over communications with ATC, the captain performed the according checklists. The crew declared PAN PAN over concerns the communication might fail completely. The aircraft continued for a safe landing in Kelowna.
The Canadian TSB reported: "After the flight, company maintenance replaced the #2 VHF radio transceiver."
