A Wings Air Avions de Transport Regional ATR-72-212A, registration PK-WHY performing flight IW-3544 from Ambon to Babo (Indonesia), was in the initial climb out of Ambon Pattimura Airport's runway 22 when just after becoming airborne all display units, stand by instruments, communication and multi function control display unit (MCDU) failed, the landing gear lever could not be retracted. Climbing through about 2000 feet the display units 1 and 3 partially recovered showing speed and altitude indications again, at about 3000 feet communication and remaining display units intermittently recovered and the landing gear retracted. The aircraft stopped the climb at 4000 feet and positioned for a return to runway 04 about 30 minutes after departure, but went around and entered a hold at 7000 feet. The aircraft subsequently landed back on runway 04 about 1:50 hours after departure.
Indonesia's KNKT rated the occurrence a serious incident and opened an investigation. There were no injuries, the aircraft sustained minor damage.
The occurrence aircraft returned to service on Jul 13th 2020.
