An Alaska Airlines Boeing 737-900, registration N431AS performing flight AS-1084 from Seattle,WA to San Jose,CA (USA) with 175 passengers and 6 crew, was descending through FL180 towards San Jose, when the crew requested priority reporting they have had an APU failure and now smell of smoke in the aft cabin. The aircraft continued for a safe landing on San Jose's runway 30L about 19 minutes later.

The airline reported the aircraft requested priority due to the failure of the APU, the aircraft remained fully powered however.
