An Azores Airlines Airbus A321-200N, registration CS-TSI performing flight S4-247 from Ponta Delgada (Portugal) to New York JFK,NY (USA), was climbing out of Ponta Delgada's runway 30 when the aircraft received a bird strike. The crew stopped the climb at about FL170 and returned to Ponta Delgada for a safe landing on runway 30 about 30 minutes after departure.

The rotation was cancelled.

The occurrence aircraft is still on the ground in Ponta Delgada about 26 hours after landing back.
