An Air Canada Airbus A320-200, registration C-FKPT performing flight AC-7081 from Buffalo,NY (USA) to Montreal,QC (Canada) with 2 crew, had just levelled off at FL330 when the crew decided to lower their speed due to turbulence. At this point both engines (CFM56) began to spool down, but the left hand engine became stalled between 50 and 54% N1. The crew worked the related checklists, reduced the left thrust lever to below 50% at which point the engine stabilized again. The crew declared Mayday and continued the flight to destination for a safe landing about 45 minutes after departure.

The Canadian TSB reported there had been no warnings, only slight buffet. Based on the fault and reliability data the variable bleed valve actuator will be replaced.
