An Air Canada Boeing 777-300, registration C-FIVR performing flight
AC-873 from Frankfurt/Main (Germany) to Toronto,ON (Canada) with 138 people on board, was taxiing for departure. The aircraft lined up runway 07C for departure, when tower noticed the aircraft had entered the runway tower advised that they had not been cleared to enter the runway.
The Canadian TSB reported: "During taxi in EDDF, Flight Crew received clearance instructions from tower during taxi out, flight crew read back clearance as taxi to position twice and was not corrected by controller. As crew took position on RWY 07C, tower advised crew they were not cleared to position. There was no conflicting traffic on Runway 07C."
The aircraft departed Frankfurt shortly afterwards and completed the flight without further incident.
