A Delta Airlines Boeing 737-900, registration N901DN performing flight DL-1678 from Bozeman,MT to Minneapolis,MN (USA) with 181 people on board, was climbing through FL240 out of Bozeman when the crew requested to descend to FL190 and subsequently requested a diversion to Billings declared Mayday and reporting an engine (CFM56) failure. The aircraft landed on Billings' runway 28R about 35 minutes after stopping the climb.

A replacement Boeing 737-900 registration N807DN continued the flight and reached Minneapolis with a delay of about 6 hours.

The occurrence aircraft returned to service after about 78 hours.
