An Eurowings Europe Malta Airbus A320-200, registration 9H-EUX performing flight
EW-9854 from Dusseldorf (Germany) to Brindisi (Italy) with 144 people on board, was climbing out of Dusseldorf's runway 05R when the crew stopped the climb at about 3000 feet and decided to return to Dusseldorf due to smoke on board. The aircraft landed safely on Dusseldorf's runway 23L about 8 minutes after departure. Two passengers were taken to hospitals as a precaution.
The airline reported some slight smoke development on board.
The rotation was cancelled.
The occurrence aircraft is still on the ground in Dusseldorf about 26 hours after landing.
