An Air India Boeing 777-300, registration VT-ALJ performing flight
AI-187 from Delhi (India) to Vienna (Austria), was climbing through about 3100 feet MSL out of Delhi when the aircraft began to descend again. The aircraft began to climb again at about 2200 feet and continued to Vienna for a safe landing without further incident.
The airline reported the pilots reported the occurrence in bad weather to the airline who in turn informed India's DGCA. The crew had been de-rostered pending the outcome of the investigation.
At the time there were thunderstorms around the aerodrome.
