A JAL Japan Airlines Boeing 787-8, registration JA847J performing flight JL-516 from Sapporo Chitose to Tokyo Haneda (Japan) with 294 people on board, was climbing out of Chitose's runway 01L when the crew stopped the climb at 5000 feet due to a hydraulic failure and entered a hold. The aircraft returned to Chitose for a safe landing on runway 01R about one hour after departure.

The flight was cancelled, the passengers were rebooked onto the next flights.

The aircraft is still on the ground about 10 hours after landing.
