A KLM Cityhopper Embraer ERJ-195-E2, registration PH-NXJ performing flight KL-1167 from Amsterdam (Netherlands) to Bergen (Norway), was enroute at FL400 over the North Sea about 180nm northeast of Amsterdam when the crew decided to turn around and return to Amsterdam. The aircraft landed safely on Amsterdam's runway 36C about 70 minutes after departure.

A passenger reported the captain announced a communication equipment failure, which would have caused the aircraft to be grounded at Bergen.

The aircraft was able to depart again and reached Bergen with a delay of about 2.5 hours.
