A LATAM Brasil Airbus A321-200, registration PT-MXQ performing flight
LA-3361 from Salvador,BA to Sao Paulo Guarulhos,SP (Brazil), was climbing out of Salvador's runway 10 when the right hand engine (V2533) failed emitting sparks. The crew levelled off at FL160, shut the engine down and returned to Salvador for a safe landing on runway 10 about 35 minutes after departure.
The flight was cancelled.
The occurrence aircraft is still on the ground in Salvador about 23 hours after landing back.
