An Aer Lingus Airbus A321-200N, registration EI-LRG performing flight EI-116 from Washington Dulles,DC (USA) to Dublin (Ireland) with 174 passengers and 6 crew, was climbing out of Dulles' runway 30 when the crew declared Mayday reporting a rear galley oven was on fire, stopped the climb at about 4000 feet and requested to return to Dulles. While maneouvering for a return to runway 19L the crew advised the oven fire had been extinguished and downgraded their call to PAN PAN. The aircraft landed safely back on runway 19L about 17 minutes after departure.

The aircraft was able to depart again about 2.5 hours after landing back and reached Dublin with a delay of about 2.5 hours.
