An Aer Lingus Airbus A330-300, registration EI-EAV performing flight
EI-106 from New York JFK,NY (USA) to Dublin (Ireland), was climbing out of JFK's runway 31L when the crew stopped the climb at about 5000 feet due to the right hand engine (CF6) emitting bangs and streaks of flames and requested to return to JFK. The aircraft positioned for an ILS approach to runway 31L and landed safely on that runway about 20 minutes after departure.
The aircraft is still on the ground in New York about 33 hours after landing back.
The airline reported the aircraft needed to return due to some technical issue. The passengers have been rebooked onto other flights and should all have left New York by evening of Dec 25th 2022.
