A Lufthansa Airbus A330-300, registration D-AIKS performing flight LH-595 from Abuja (Nigeria) to Frankfurt/Main (Germany), was accelerating for takeoff from Abuja's runway 22 when the aircraft collided with an animal on the runway prompting the crew to reject takeoff at high speed (about 100 knots over ground). The aircraft slowed safely and returned to the apron.

The flight was cancelled.

The aircraft is still on the ground in Abuja (standing Nov 11th 2023, 12 days after the rejected takeoff).

According to information The Aviation Herald received the aircraft sustained damage to one of the engines (Trent 772) requiring the replacement of the engine, damage to the nose cowl requiring replacement of the nose cowl and damage to flaps.
