A Lufthansa Airbus A330-300, registration D-AIKQ performing flight LH-440 from Frankfurt (Germany) to Houston Intercontinental,TX (USA), was enroute at FL340 about 15nm northwest of Brest (France) when the crew turned the aircraft around and descended to FL280 due to an engine malfunction. The aircraft returned to Frankfurt for a safe landing on runway 25C about 3 hours after departure.

The flight was cancelled.

A passenger reported the crew announced an engine malfunction, the aircraft became louder and more vibrating than usual. Emergency services were on standby upon arrival back in Frankfurt.
