A Lufthansa Airbus A350-900, registration D-AIVB performing flight
LH-474 from Munich (Germany) to Montreal,QC (Canada) with 308 people on board, was descending towards Montreal when the crew reported a hydraulic failure. The crew subsequently used the alternate gear extension to lower the gear and continued for a safe landing on runway 24L about 20 minutes later. The aircraft was towed to the apron.
The return flight LH-475 was cancelled. The aircraft remained on the ground in Montreal for about 48 hours, then positioned back to Munich and remained on the ground in Munich for another 42 hours before returning to service.
On May 19th 2023 the Canadian TSB reported the crew received a high temperature indication for the yellow hydraulic system followed by the automatic shutdown of the related pumps. The crew declared emergency, performed a gravity extension of the landing gear. The aircraft landed without further incident and was able to vacate the runway.
