A Malaysia Airlines Boeing 737-800, registration 9M-MXU performing flight
MH-199 from Hyderabad (India) to Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia) with 138 people on board, was climbing out of Hyderabad when the crew stopped the climb at FL290 due to a malfunction of the right hand engine (CFM56), which emitted sparks. The crew shut the engine down, drifted down to FL190 and returned to Hyderabad. The aircraft entered a hold to burn off fuel and landed safely on runway 27L about 2.5 hours after departure.
The airline reported an issue with one of the engines on climb after takeoff.
