A SalamAir Airbus A321-200N, registration A4O-OXG performing flight OV-104 from Salalah to Muscat (Oman), was on approach descending through about 5000 feet MSL when the crew received a "TERRAIN AHEAD" EGPWS warning. The crew climbed the aircraft to 8000 feet, turned left to avoid the terrain and subsequently continued the approach for a safe landing on runway 08L about 9 minutes later.

Oman's TSB reported the aircraft was on a visual approach to Muscat when the EPWS triggered a "TERRAIN AHEAD" warning. The crew performed the planned procedure. The occurrence was rated a serious incident and is being investigated.
