A THY Turkish Airlines Airbus A330-300, registration TC-JNT performing flight TK-43 from Johannesburg (South Africa) to Istanbul (Turkey), had been cleared to line up runway 21L behind a departing A380-800 when the A380 crew reported shortly after departure they had hit something on the runway. Tower offered a runway inspection to TK-43, the crew however declined and began their takeoff roll but subsequently needed to reject takeoff, the crew advised they needed a technical inspection. The aircraft returned to the apron.

The aircraft was able to depart about 6 hours later and reached Istanbul with a delay of 6.5 hours.

The preceding departure, British Airways Airbus A380-800 registration G-XLEB performing flight BA-56 from Johannesburg to London Heathrow,EN (UK), continued to London Heathrow and continued service on schedule afterwards.
