An Air Canada Airbus A330-300, registration C-GFAH performing flight
AC-490 from Toronto,ON to Montreal,QC (Canada) with 297 passengers and 12 crew, was climbing out of Toronto cleared to climb to FL230 when the crew stopped the climb at 11,000 feet declaring emergency and reporting an electrical odour in the cabin. The crew advised they were to stop on the runway. The aircraft returned to Toronto's runway 23 for a safe landing about 27 minutes after departure.
The aircraft remained on the ground for about 6 hours, then departed again for flight
AC-490 and reached Montreal with a delay of about 7 hours.
On Jun 1st 2023 the Canadian TSB reported maintenance identified the In Seat Power Supply located under row 38D as source of the odour, it was subsequently confirmed the unit had failed.
