An Air Canada Boeing 777-200, registration C-FNND performing flight
AC-42 from Toronto,ON (Canada) to Delhi (India) with 280 people on board, was enroute at FL340 over the Atlantic Ocean about 120nm east of St. John's,NL (Canada) when the crew received indications concerning multiple systems. Following consultation with maintenance and dispatch the crew declared PAN PAN and decided to return to Toronto, where the aircraft landed without further incident about 7:40 hours after departure.
Canada's TSB reported: "Maintenance found the ALT gear down dispatch switch not in the normal position. In accordance with the aircraft maintenance manual, the switch was replaced, the switch guard installed and an operational test carried out."
