An Air France Airbus A350-900, registration F-HUVB performing flight AF-29 from Papeete (French Polynesia) to Los Angeles,CA (USA), was enroute at FL390 over the Pacific Ocean about 600nm north of Papeete when the crew decided to return to Papeete reporting the smell of smoke from a trolley. The aircraft landed safely back in Papeete about 4.5 hours after departure.

The aircraft is still on the ground in Papeete about 16 hours after landing back, the flight to Los Angeles as well as the onward sector to Paris Charles de Gaulle (France) were cancelled.
