A Jazz de Havilland Dash 8-300, registration C-GABO performing flight
QK-8603 from Toronto,ON to Sudbury,ON (Canada) with 15 people, was taxiing for departure when tower cleared the flight to line up runway 05 and provided a pre-clearance that once airborne they should turn left onto a heading of 360 degrees. The crew read the instructions correctly back to tower. About a minute later the crew announced they were in the takeoff roll runway 05. After becoming airborne and climbing through 2000 feet the crew inquired whether they had actually received a takeoff clearance. Tower responded they never received an official takeoff clearance, however, tower did not want to disrupt the roll as everything was clear. The aircraft continued to Sudbury for a safe landing without further incident.
The Canadian TSB reported there had been no risk of a collision and no impact on operations.
