A Lufthansa Boeing 747-400, registration D-ABVM performing flight
LH-470 from Frankfurt/Main (Germany) to Toronto,ON (Canada), was enroute at FL360 over the North Sea nearing Newcaste upon Tyne,EN (UK) when the crew decided to return to Frankfurt, where the aircraft landed safely on runway 25L about 2:15 hours after departure.
The airline reported an unusual odour on board prompted the return. The passengers were rebooked onto other flights.
The aircraft returned to service about 17 hours after landing.
