A Lufthansa Boeing 747-8, registration D-ABYD performing flight LH-430 from Frankfurt/Main (Germany) to Chicago O'Hare,IL (USA), was enroute at FL320 about 110nm westnorthwest of Amsterdam (Netherlands) when the crew decided to return to Frankfurt due to a fault indication with one of the fire alarm systems. The crew advised no assistance was needed, descended to FL310 and returned to Frankfurt for a safe landing on runway 25L about 2:15 hours after departure.

The rotations was cancelled.

The airline reported a faulty fire alarm system prompted the precautionary return, all engines kept running without limitations. The passengers on both flights were rebooked onto other flights.
