A VivaAerobus Airbus A321-200N, registration XA-VXR performing flight
VB-100 from Mexico City (Mexico) to New York JFK,NY (USA), was on a RNAV Z (aka Canarsie Approach) to JFK's runway 13L and was cleared to land, but turned towards runway 13R where a THY Boeing 787-9 had lined up and was waiting for takeoff clearance. Descending through about 700 feet AGL the A21N crew initiated a go around, turned left off the runway centerline, climbed to 3000 feet, positioned for another approach and landed following another Canarsie Approach without further incident on runway 13L about 17 minutes after the go around. ATC instructed the crew to contact ATC via phone.
A THY Turkish Airlines Boeing 787-9 registration TC-LLD from New York JFK,NY (USA) to Istanbul (Turkey), had lined up runway 13R and just received takeoff clearance when tower cancelled the takeoff clearance due to the A21N approaching the wrong runway. The 787 received another takeoff clearance about 90 seconds later.
The occurrence aircraft departed for the return flight with a delay of about 105 minutes.
