An Air Canada Bombardier C-Series CS-300, registration C-GMYU performing flight
AC-766 from Toronto,ON (Canada) to Boston,MA (USA) with 142 people on board, was on final approach to Boston's runway 04R when the flight crew experienced a sudden and unexpected handling anomaly, a "FLT CTRL DIRECT" EICAS message along other flight control related messages occurred. The crew performed a missed approach, switched to direct mode, declared PAN PAN and positioned for another approach to runway 04L about 33 minutes after the go around.
Canada's TSB reported: "On initial approach, the flight crew experienced a sudden and unexpected flight handling event followed by FLT CTRL DIRECT EICAS MSG along with other flight control messages. The flight crew conducted a missed approach and switched to direct mode. A PAN PAN was declared and flight continued the second approach without further incident."
