A SAS Scandinavian Airlines Airbus A330-300, registration LN-RKM performing flight
SK-904 from Newark,NJ (USA) to Stockholm (Sweden) with 264 people on board, was enroute at FL360 about 340nm northeast of Bangor,ME (USA) when the crew decided to turn around and divert to Bangor due to the smell of smoke in the cabin. The aircraft landed safely on Bangor's runway 33 about 75 minutes later.
The aircraft is still on the ground in Bangor about 14.5 hours after landing.
On Jun 22nd 2026 the Canadian TSB reported: "While in cruise approximately 130 nm northeast of Charlottetown Airport (CYYG), PE, cabin crew members reported an electrical-type fume smell in the cabin. The flight crew declared a PAN PAN, carried out the smoke/fumes checklist, and diverted to Bangor International Airport (KBGR), ME. The smell reportedly disappeared during the descent. No smoke was observed and no smell was reported on the flight deck. The aircraft landed normally at KBGR and was inspected by emergency services. There were no injuries and no aircraft damage. Post-occurrence maintenance: the reported cabin areas and associated systems were inspected. No visible defects, burned smell, or system faults were found. The aircraft was released and ferried empty. No further smell, fumes, or smoke were reported."
