A TAP Air Portugal Airbus A321-200N, registration CS-TXA performing flight TP-5 from Lisbon (Portugal) to Natal,RN (Brazil), was enroute at FL330 about 270nm south of Funchal (Portugal) when the crew decided to divert to the Island of Madeira due to a mismatch in the luggage loaded on board, a bag was unaccompanied by a passenger. The aircraft turned around, burned off fuel and landed safely in Funchal about 80 minutes after leaving FL330.

The aircraft remained on the ground for about an hour, then continued the journey and reached Natal with a delay of about 4 hours.
