A TAP Air Portugal Airbus A321-200N, registration CS-TXA performing flight TP-231 from Lisbon (Portugal) to Washington Dulles,DC (USA), was enroute at FL320 over the Atlantic Ocean about 180nm westnorthwest of Lisbon when the crew decided to return to Lisbon due to hydraulic issue. The aircraft descended to 4000 feet, entered a hold to burn off fuel and landed safely back on Lisbon's runway 21 about 3 hours after departure.

A replacement A321-200N registration CS-TXE reached Washington with a delay of about 4.5 hours.

The occurrence aircraft is still on the ground in Lisbon about 20 hours after landing back.

The airline reported the aircraft returned to Lisbon due to technical reasons after takeoff.
