A SAS Scandinavian Airlines Airbus A330-300, registration LN-RKM performing flight
SK-903 from Stockholm (Sweden) to Newark,NJ (USA), departed Stockholm's runway 01L but struck its tail onto the runway surface. The aircraft continued the climb to FL360 and was enroute about 450nm north of Copenhagen (Denmark) when the crew decided to divert to Copenhagen. The aircraft maintained FL360 on the way to Copenhagen and landed without further incident on Copenhagen's runway 22L about 75 minutes after beginning the diversion. The aircraft sustained substantial damage.
A replacement A330-300 registration LN-RKO reached Newark with a delay of about 6 hours.
The occurrence aircraft remained on the ground in Copenhagen for 10 days, then ferried to Palma Mallorca,SP (Spain) maintaining maximum flight level 100 and is anticipated to remain on the ground in Mallorca for considerable time.
